Exemption from work

Employees have after Pflegezeitgesetz the possibility to freely ask for the care of a close relative up to ten days off from work (short-term absence from work) or up to six months to take care of time.

After the law to reconcile family, work and care workers can since 1 January 2015, during the ten-day exemption a so-called maintenance support monetary relate, which is the medical insurance fund paid (analogous to children sick pay).

Family care leave

According to the law to reconcile family, work and care workers are entitled to family care leave. This allows reducing the working time up to 15 hours a week. The employer may not terminate them from the date of announcement, but not earlier than 12 weeks before the announced start until the end of the maintenance period.
