With so many people using computers to work, tired, tense, or stiff eyes have become a very common complaint. Studies show, eye tension and other vision problems experienced by 50-90 workers who use computers.
Here are five ways to reduce some of the complaints caused by computer vision syndrome.
1. Perform a thorough check of the eyes
Regular eye check is one of the important steps that need to be taken to prevent or overcome CVS.
According to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, computer users should have their eyes checked before they start working on computers and one year later.
When checking, make sure to tell your doctor how often you use your computer at work or at home. Measure how far your eyes are from the computer screen when you sit down, and take this measure while doing an eye check. Read 4 Powerful Ways to Eliminate Various Body Odors
2. Use light to taste
Tense eyes are usually also caused by very bright light from the incoming sunlight from windows or lights in a very bright room. When you use a computer, the light should be 50 percent darker than most office lights.
Reduce the light coming from the outside by closing the curtains. Reduce the light by reducing fewer light bulbs. If possible, position the computer screen so that the window is on the side, not in front or behind you.
3. Wink more often
One cause of tired eyes is because it is less blinking. Blinking is very important when you work in front of a computer. Blinking will moisturize the eyes and prevent dry eye or irritation.
4. Train your eyes
Another cause of tense eyes is because it keeps focusing. To reduce eye fatigue due to continuous focus on the screen, switch the view from the screen for at least 20 minutes. Also try looking at objects that are away from you (at least 6 meters) for at least 20 seconds.
Another exercise is to look at distant objects for 10-15 seconds, then see something that is near you. Then look back at the distant object. Do this up to 10 times.
5. Rest more often
To reduce CVS risk and pain in the neck, shoulders, and back, take a break more often while you work at the computer. Most workers only take a two-minute break for 15 minutes throughout the day they work at the computer.
Take it easy, this extra break will not reduce your productivity. Instead, breaks will make you work more productively. At rest, stand up, move, stretch your body, hands, feet, neck, and shoulders to reduce the tension.
